Firmware updating guide
Why update your Keystone 3 Pro? Firmware updates usually include support for new blockchains, bug fixes or new features. If your current version meets your needs, updating is not required. Below are explanations for the 2 ways Keystone devices can be updated.
Option 1: Update via USB cable
1. If your firmware version is lower than 1.0.4, you must perform the first update using a MicroSD card before you can proceed with USB updates.
2. Check the battery: Make sure your Keystone’s battery is at least 20% charged.
3. Connect: Tap [via USB] and use the USB cable to connect your Keystone wallet to your computer. Tap [Goedkeuren] to give your Keystone wallet USB access, otherwise it may only allow charging.
4. Update: Open your computer’s web browser and go to the Firmware update page.
5. Install: On the update page, click the “Install Update” button and follow the provided instructions to install the latest firmware.
Option 2: Update via MicroSD card
1. Check battery: Make sure your Keystone has at least 20% battery.
2. Format the SD card: Insert the SD card into your computer and format it as FAT32. Check out the blog on how to format it for Windows or Mac here.
3. Get Firmware: Download the latest firmware version of Keystone and save the file (keystone3.bin) in your MicroSD card. Download the latest official firmware from Keystone here.
4. Insert the SD card: Insert the SD card with the firmware into your Keystone device.
5. Start Update: Open the “Upgrade” option on your Keystone 3 Pro and follow the on-screen instructions to start the update process.
